Indoor Air Quality

According to the EPA, IAQ is the introduction and distribution of adequate ventilation air, control of airborne contaminants, and maintenance of acceptable temperatures and relative humidity. Simply put, it is having sufficient, healthy, comfortable air inside a building.
The most significant concerns relate to health issues such as cough, eye irritation, headache, and allergic reactions, and in some rare cases, life-threatening conditions like Legionnaires' disease and carbon monoxide poisoning. Common sources of contamination include fungus, bacteria and other microbiologicals from water damage, damp basements or inadequately maintained HVAC systems. Sewer back ups can promote
E.coli and coliform contamination. Other sources include unusual odors, gases and fumes like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and volatile organics (formaldehyde, solvents, pesticides, cleaning agents, petroleum products, etc.).
EMG evaluates and samples for both chemical and biological contaminants. We are knowledgeable of the conditions that can cause biological contamination such as bacterial and microbial growth. EMG also evaluates, samples and analyzes for hazardous chemicals such as volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, solvents, and particulates in air.
EMG's quick response and professional demeanor expedite the identification and remediation of hazards. Our experience and professionalism calm the emotions of building occupants and accurately evaluate potential problems.
Our site investigations are conducted in a three step approach:

  1. Interview building occupants and/or employees familiar with the building's history;
  2. Perform a visual inspection of the site, including mechanical systems, and observe occupants' work practices; and,
  3. Assess the collected information, define a sampling strategy, and, if necessary, quantify suspected hazards.
EMG uses standards and sampling methods recognized by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), World Health Organization (WHO), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
